6 Warning Signs of High Suicide Risk

H2 High risk of suicide is accompanied by:

  • Overwhelming hopelessness
  • Active suicidal thoughts
  • A clear preferred method of death, access to that method, a plan to die with a time and place
  • The stated intention to act on this plan
  • The presence of alcohol or other substances and a past unsuccessful suicide attempt
  • The presence of these factor increases the risk exponentially. That means if one is present the risk increases and the more of these factors that are present the greater the risk of the person acting on their suicidality increases. If all of these are present this is grave risk and this person should immediately contact a health care professional or go to the nearest emergency services.
